Sites to See at the University of Notre Dame This Winter | Cressy & Everett

Located within driving distance of our South Bend homes for sale, the University of Notre Dame is one of the most prestigious private higher-learning institutions in the country. It also has a plethora of iconic landmarks on its grounds.

Whether you're a prospective student, a supportive parent, or just someone interested in the local culture, you'll love exploring every inch of this school's campus. Join our real estate agents on this brief virtual tour of spots you'll definitely want to check out this winter.

Landmarks to Look Out for at the University of Notre Dame

The Golden Dome

Address: Main Building, Notre Dame, IN 46556

The Golden Dome is technically not a landmark itself—it's part of the university's Main Administration Building, a gorgeous old structure listed on the National Register of Historic Places. That said, it's easily the most recognizable thing on campus. The shining domed roof is plated with real gold leaf and crowned by a gilded statue of the Virgin Mary.

The dome's iconic exterior gets most of the attention, but we think the stunning ceiling painting underneath it deserves some love, too. Students are only admitted to the second-floor rotunda during the school's highly exclusive Dome Dances, so only a tiny percentage of alumni have seen Luigi Gregori's masterful artwork in person.

Notre Dame Stadium

Address: 2010 Moose Krause Circle, Notre Dame, IN 46556

Notre Dame Stadium attracts thousands of football fans from all over the country each year. As one of the oldest football stadiums in the country and the home of the university's celebrated Fighting Irish team, it's no surprise that it's become an integral part of North American sports culture.

Aside from football games and a few soccer and hockey matches, the stadium also hosts the school's commencement ceremonies and the occasional outdoor concert. Some big names that have played here include:

  • Garth Brooks
  • Billy Joel
  • Zach Bryan
  • AC/DC (coming in Fall 2026)

Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes

Address: 101 Basilica Drive, Notre Dame, IN 46556

You don't have to be religious to appreciate the beauty of the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes. At just one-seventh the size of France's shrine by the same name, this gorgeous stone hideaway is filled with hundreds of votive candles. Visitors are encouraged to light a candle and spend a moment in quiet reflection in this sacred space.

You can visit this sanctuary at any hour, day, or night. Remember to be respectful and avoid noisy or disruptive activities while there. If you'd like to pray with others in this space, consider attending the nightly Rosary prayer at 6:45 p.m.

Clarke Memorial Fountain

Address: 100-198 Hesburgh Drive, Notre Dame, IN 46556

Walking through campus near the library and Basilica, you're sure to spot the massive Clarke Memorial Fountain gleaming in the sun. This striking monument was built in 1986 and dedicated to all the Notre Dame students and alumni who have fought or died in war.

The fountain is made of limestone and features four large stone archways clustered around the central fountain. These structures might look familiar to you: their simple three-block shape is what gave the monument the nickname "Stonehenge."

Raclin Murphy Museum of Art

Address: St André Way, Notre Dame, IN 46556

Notre Dame's Raclin Murphy Museum of Art boasts a collection of over 30,000 unique works of historic and contemporary art from all over the world. The treasures on display include:

  • Paintings
  • Sculptures
  • Drawings
  • Photographs
  • Decorative pottery
  • China dishes

In good weather, you can also visit the outdoor sculpture garden. Most of the 22 large-scale sculptures here were created in the last decade, but a few date back to the 1960s.
