Need to cool off this summer? Here are the South Bend spots you can find a frosty dessert.

With the summer heat bearing down on us, you're probably looking for ways to find a little relief. It's a South Bend tradition to frequent one or more of our town's favorite frozen dessert shops during the summer. Here are a few suggestions from our real estate agents of the "coolest" places in town.

  • Whistle Stop Ice Cream - 210 S St Louis Blvd
If you're looking for a traditional ice cream shop with premium homemade ice cream and desserts, this should be your first "stop." Whistle Stop specializes in homemade ice cream, handcrafted milkshakes, and other delicious desserts such as brownie sundaes. The ice cream shop is also situated within easy walking distance of the River Walk, so you can ask for your ice cream in a waffle cone and wander while you eat it. Whistle Stop is open from 12:30 pm until 9 pm every day.

  • Paleteria y Neveria La Rosita - 2909 W Western Ave
This unique local ice cream shop offers a variety of traditional Mexican treats, ranging from spicy to sweet. They're locally famous for their Mexican street corn in a cup and other spicy snacks, but if you're in the mood for a sweet cold treat, Paleteria y Neveria La Rosita won't disappoint! The lines are long, but that's just a testament to how much locals love their ice cream. This unique South Bend ice cream shop is open from 11 am until 10 pm every day.

  • Let's Spoon Froyo - 1635 Edison Rd
Looking for something a little healthier than traditional ice cream? Let's Spoon Froyo is a frozen yogurt shop where you put together your own dessert, choose how much you want, and pay by weight. In addition, there are a number of special menu choices such as milkshakes, boba tea, and pints and quarts of frozen yogurt that you can take home with you. Let's Spoon is open from 2 pm until 10 pm every day.

  • La Sonorita - 3622 Edison Road
Another Mexican-style ice cream shop and treat bar, La Sonorita serves a variety of traditional Mexican snacks as well as frozen desserts. Choose from traditional favorites such as flan and churros, a variety of meat tortas, fruit, and ice cream. La Sonorita is open from 11 am until 9 pm every day.

  • sweetFrog - 560 W Ireland Rd
Another cold dessert shop offering soft serve frozen yogurt, sweetFrog offers lots of flavors to choose from, plus an assortment of premium toppings to make your dessert uniquely yours. Check the website to see what flavors the South Bend store is serving before heading down. sweetFrog is open noon to 9 pm Tuesday through Saturday and noon to 7 pm Sunday and Monday.

  • Bonnie Doon Drive-In - 2704 Lincolnway W
In neighboring Mishawaka, you'll find the Bonnie Doon Drive-In, an old-fashioned drive-in fast food joint serving burgers, brats, and of course, ice cream, malts, and root beer floats! They offer rotating ice cream flavors, as well as special treats such as banana boats. Drive in for a unique experience! Bonnie Doon Drive-In is open from 11 am until 9 pm every day.

Frozen desserts are quintessential summer fare, and you'll find plenty of ice cream and dessert shops to choose from in our community, most of them close to South Bend homes for sale. For more information about South Bend or to start your search for your dream home, contact us today.
